Malaysian GP 2016 - QF

by Cato Batista, 23/10/2016 4:12:22

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Another HAM v ROS battle is on the making for Sepang, the Mercedes are the faster cars even in this low-grip circuit with high temperatures and on the Medium-Soft-Super Soft Pirelli rubber selection. Between Ferrari and Red Bull this time the italians are looking the faster of the two, but VER spent most in FP2 working on race simulations and was, by far, the most consistent and faster even than the Mercedes. PER and ALO were the ‘best of the rest’ in the faster second session when the rubber build up allowed for better times in the super-softs. FP1 was red-flagged for over 20 minutes when MAG’s Renault caught fire in the pitlane, but surprisingly his mechanics were able to rebuilt the car in time for FP2.

Singapore GP 2016 - Race

by Cato Batista, 17/09/2016 22:51:54

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This was probably the closest QF session we’d had, in the end Mercedes imposed their superior horsepower over Red Bull’s better handling for ROS to take pole.”It was one of the 3 best laps of my life” declared Nico afterwards, but in all fairness he‘s had a much better weekend than teammate Lewis who’s been struggling with mechanical issues and lack of track time to dial the car to his liking. Despite the 7-tenth deficit HAM will start 3rd in between the Red Bull cars. RIC has been generaly slower than VER but as usual he used all his racecraft in his last attempt to grab second. Ferrari look poised for a top-3 finish but RAI lost grip in his last flyer (“we don’t know why” -he said) to end 5th, but the other red car will start 22nd and last as VET suffered a broken rear suspension in the Q1-out lap and the team didn't have enough time to make ...

Singapore GP 2016 - QF

by Cato Batista, 17/09/2016 22:50:11

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Red Bull’s chassis with it’s “rake” stance (lower front nose, higher rear end) always performs its best in Monaco, Hungary & Singapore where its combination of higher-downforce/lower-drag overcomes any deficit in horsepower. No wonder Max & Daniel are pretty upbeat about their chances here in Marina Bay. VER was fastest in FP1 with RIC second but Mercedes didn’t try the ultra-soft tyres until the next session where ROS set the fastest lap of the day, so this will not be a repeat of last year when the Silver Arrows couldn’t make the rubber to work properly. But it is still very close between the two teams with Ferrari realistically in the mix. Pirelli has brought their 3 softest compounds to Singapore: ultra-soft/super-soft/soft, so far there’s about 0.6 sec laptime difference between each of them.
